Kansas Quilt Project, circa 1980s.

This collection mostly consists of documentation of quilts and quilt makers found in Kansas. It includes forms providing information on quilts and quilt makers as well as release forms from individuals interviewed around the state, with details regarding how individuals learned to make quilts, personal information, and technical information about specific quilts, such as number of layers, technique used to construct the quilt, block style, how quilted, etc. The informational forms are grouped by location. Also in the collection are correspondence, survey questionnaires for quilt guilds, notes, and other research materials; slides, photographs, and other visual materials of quilts; and audio cassettes of interviews with quilt makers. The project was co-sponsored by the Kansas State Historical Society and the Kansas Quilt Project, Inc. in the late 1980s.

The Kansas State Historical Society (KSHS or KHS) was formally organized on 13 December 1875, though previous attempts had been made to found such a society. The Kansas Editors' and Publishers' Association were the driving force for this latest version, and the committee created to form the society appointed Franklin G. Adams as its secretary.
